The Garden Route has a Mediterranean
Maritime climate, with moderately hot summers, and mild to chilly winters.
It is one of the richest rainfall areas, most of which occurs in the
winter months, brought by the humid sea-winds from the Indian ocean.
Anytime of the year is good for visiting the area, depending if you prefer
a peaceful retreat during the winter months, or a bustling holiday
destination during the summer.
Located between
Knysna and George with the salty sea air off the beaches on one side
mingling with fresh fragrance of the pine trees on the other lies the
sleepy, but fast growing town of Sedgefield.
This resort town offers the
bird watcher a treasure trove of varied and beautiful bird species to be
found within the different eco-systems in the surrounding area. There are
many hiking trails and bird hides established for just that pleasure. At
the same time you can marvel at the beautiful and colourful wild flowers
and fynbos. To the west lies Swartvlei,
forming a safe estuary for bathing. The estuary provides for good fishing
for the enthusiastic angler and near Gerickes Point there are beautiful
rock formations and its also a popular spot for spear fishing.
